AHS’ McNair, RHS’ Abdul-Matin win state titles

The NCHSAA Track and Field Championships were held this past weekend and two Randolph County athletes brought home titles.

In the 2A championships on Saturday, Randleman senior Umar Abdul-Matin took home the title in the 110-meter hurdles with a time 14.74 seconds. He would finish sixth in the 300-meter hurdles and eleventh in the 400-meter relay along with Clayton Gentry, Tanner McGee, and Tyson Green.

In Sunday’s 3A championships, Asheboro senior Kalynn McNair defended her 2017 triple jump title. She took first place with a distance of 38 feet and .01 inches.

Congratulations to both of these athletes on their state titles!
