Wheatmore (1-1) hosted the Dragons of West Davidson (2-0) looking to get their 2nd win of the season.

The Dragons opened up the game with a great offensive series that consisted of a long kickoff return and a lot of pounding the ball on the ground with running back Kyle Smith. Quarterback Jordan Heitman capped off the drive with a quarterback keeper for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was then blocked by Wheatmore’s Marvin Taylor.

The remainder of the first half was a defensive battle. The Warrior defense always seemed to rise to the occasion and make a stop when the Dragons began to build some momentum. The biggest defensive play of the 1st half came right before halftime when the Dragons were looking to score from the Wheatmore 15 yard line when Marvin Taylor intercepted the pass in the end zone with just 13 seconds left.

The turning point in the game came in the 3rd quarter when West Davidson’s Jordan Heitman scored his second touchdown of the night and then converted the 2-point conversion to put the Dragons up 14 to 0.

Key Players in tonight’s game:

Brayton Hardin: Hardin carried the ball 33 times for the Warriors gaining 139 yards and a TD . Hardin was responsible for most of the Wheatmore offense tonight with a lot of strong runs. Brayton had several runs tonight where he was hit at the line of scrimmage and carried the Dragon defenders for 7 yards before they could bring him down.

Marvin Taylor: Taylor was all over the field tonight making plays for Wheatmore. He had a couple long kickoff returns that were called back due to penalties and a blocked extra point attempt. Taylor also had 5 tackles and an interception. Taylor is a versatile player that is used on both sides of the ball as well as special teams. He is very dangerous when he gets the ball in his hands.

Jordan Hall: Jordan led Wheatmore in tackles tonight with 7 tackles and 2 assists. Hall was flying to the ball tonight, keeping the Dragon run game in-check.

Alex Kestner: Kester is a hard-hitting linebacker that always seems to force turnovers for the Warriors. Alex recorded 6.5 tackles tonight and came up with an interception in the 1st half.

The Warriors lost to the Dragons by the score of 27-8. The Warriors will travel to West Davidson next week to take on Chatham Central. West Davidson will host Ledford next Friday.
