The Warriors hosted Carver tonight in their first conference game of the season. Wheatmore was coming off a big win over Southwestern Randolph and hoping to carry that momentum into the game tonight. Carver was hungry for a win after winning just 1 game in their first 5.
Wheatmore started the game off with a big play when the Yellow Jackets fumbled the opening kickoff and Marvin Taylor came up with the ball on the Yellow Jacket 33 yard line. The Warriors drove down to the 14 yard line with a couple runs by Brayton Hardin and Wesley Helmandollar before their drive stalled and they turned the ball over on downs.
The Yellow Jackets put together a scoring drive on their first offensive possession and found the end zone on a 45 yard touchdown run around the right side. They added the extra point and held a 7-0 lead with 6:22 left in the 1st quarter. Carver added another score when Wheatmore had a bad snap to the punter that went into the end zone and was recovered by the Yellow Jackets. Carver had a 13-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
Wheatmore came up with a big turnover with 6:30 left in the 2nd quarter when Cody Campbell intercepted the pass on the Carver 40 yard line. The Warriors drove down and got inside the 10 yard line as time was running off the clock before the half. Helmandollar caught a pass from Bryan Robles on 3rd down and 9 with 24 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, but the touchdown was called back due to an ineligible receiver down field. Wheatmore was unable to score before time ran out and they went into the half down 13-0.
Carver added another touchdown in the 3rd quarter with a 10 yard run. Wheatmore put together a great drive at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Helmandollar started the drive with a 72 yard run from the Wheatmore 8 to the Carver 20 yard line. Hardin had a couple solid runs and Helmandollar had a 7 yard reception on 4th down to pick up a first down for the Warriors. The drive was capped off by a 6 yard touchdown run by Hardin.
The Yellow Jackets went on to score two more times to defeat Wheatmore 34-7. Wheatmore will host Atkins next week for their homecoming game.
