The Cougars took on a very tough Southern Guilford team on a very wet & rainy night. The Storm scored on their first possession moving the ball down the field with ease & RB Malik Moseley running it in from 20 yards out.
The Storm led at that point 7-0. The game never got any closer, as the Storm scored on their next possession but missed the extra point to go up 13-0. That's where the score remained at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Storm scored quickly in the 2nd quarter to put them up 20-0 & never looked back, as they led 34-0 at the half. By the end of the 3rd quarter Southern Guilford widened their lead to 48-0.
The Cougars found a little life in the 4th quarter, as QB Ryan Sineath found TE Wil Shepherd on a 10 yard pass for their first score of the game but the 2 pt conversion failed. The Cougar defense buckled down, allowing just one TD in the 4th quarter but it was a little too late.
RB Brandon Osborne scored the other TD for the Cougars from inside the 5 yard line to make the score 55-12. The Cougars went for two again, but failed. After it was all said & done the Storm won 55-12.
The leading rushers for Southwestern were RB Brandon Osborne with 6 carries for 66 yards 1 TD & RB Darius Martin, one of the top 3A running backs in the state was held to just 31 yards on 14 carries, but did manage to have 112 kickoff return yards on 3 carries.
Wil Shepherd caught 1 TD for 10 yards on the night. The top defensive players for the Cougars were Safety Dylan Spangler with 12 tackles, LB Dylan Garner with 9, LB Zach Greene & LB Adam Flynn with 8 a piece.
The Cougars host Ledford next week.
