The Asheboro Blue Comets traveled to Ledford High School for a Mid-Piedmont Conference match-up to try and break their losing streak but ended up on the losing side, falling to the Panthers 19-13.
Asheboro's Lewis & Trogden each ran for touchdown's, while O'Briant had 1 made & missed PAT and also a missed field goal.
It was homecoming night for the Panthers as Ledford's Ryan Trudniak caught two passes for 104 yards and a touchdown while Dalton Harris ran for 64 yards with a score, Jeremiah Rice ran for 69 yards and Zach Gilliam added a field goal.
The Panthers struck 1st in the 2nd qtr. after Asheboro had Ledford pinned deep and forced to punt. Asheboro was called for roughing the punter which resulted in a 1st down leading to a 60+ yard Ledford pass for a touchdown on the very next play. Asheboro would tie things up on a Christian Trogden run with 33.3 seconds left in the 1st half. With 2:10 left in the 3rd Ledford would kick a 30 yard field goal to go up by 3, leading 10-7. With Asheboro driving, Ledford intercepts the ball in the 4th qtr. around the 11:52 mark. Ledford connects on another long pass down the middle which leads to a run around the right side for the Panther score, putting Ledford up 17-7. Asheboro, not folding under the pressure, puts together an impressive 4th qtr. 70+ yard drive capped by a Lewis run for the score making it 17-13 Ledford. With time running out an a goaline stance by the Asheboro D, Asheboro takes over on downs but gives up the safety on intentional grounding since the quarterback threw to no receivers from the end zone. Asheboro would try an onside punt but Ledford would recover and run out the clock for the win.
Asheboro is 0-4 in the Mid-Piedmont Conference, 3-6 overall while Ledford is 2-1 & 5-4 overall. Asheboro travels to play county rival Southwestern Randolph next Friday, Ledford travels to Southern Guilford.

Until Asheboro can get coaches to motivate the players instead of intimidate them they will loose! This team has a lot of talent but the coaching staff doesn't know what to do with it! It's pathetic that this community is tolerating this so called head coach to destroy these athletes! Fighting amongst players, ruling by intimidation.. That isn't coaching.. It's time for a new coaching staff or you will continue to see this kind of headline! Disgusting to say the least!!
Oh my gosh cruise You always got something negative to say about Asheboro football, If your so good why dont you coach, Coach Cruise
cruise, find something better to do than harass high school athletes. pathetic
Im just saying the obvious. Did we all see the same game last night? I don't know what you guys seen last night but thats what I saw! I'm not bashing the athletes I feel bad for them, they are better than this!
Keep working hard Panthers!!! Great game! Proud of all of you!
I have to say coaching is not at an all time high. We keep trying the same plays over and over without success. (you can NOT run the ball up the middle every play) Secondly, this was a JV team two years ago to go undefeated. Just saying!
can asheboro ever get it right with the coaching staff. when will we ever have a winning season. i mean we have all the talent any team could wish for every year but these bozos dont have a clue what to do. up the middle right! up the middle left! touchdown opponent! geeesh! come on and get a clue guys! i cant take this anymore
two of the worst teams go head to head this friday nite at southwest randolph. wonder will this be the Fox 8 game of the week. i hear a recruiter from rcc will be watching. haha
