Randolph Telephone Game of the Week: Asheboro at Southwestern Randolph

Let's look at the Asheboro (3-5) and Southwestern Randolph (3-5) game as a good news/bad news game.

Good News:  One of these teams will get a much needed win this Friday night.

Bad News:  One of these teams will extend their current losing streak.  Asheboro will play Southern Guilford next week and SWR will play North Forsyth. Both teams will be underdogs in their final conference game.  The best chance for either of these teams to get a win for the rest of the season is this Friday.

Good News:  It is Senior Night at Southwestern Randolph.  It has been a difficult season for the Cougars, but a win over Asheboro will make the season a lot less painful. I do think a Cougar win will mean more to their program than a Blue Comet win will mean to their program.

Bad News:  The Asheboro seniors have never lost to Southwestern Randolph.

Good News:  Several players who have not seen as much action this year should see a lot of playing time in this game.

Bad News:  Both teams have players injured and are unlikely to be back on the field this season.

Good News:  Both of these have very qualified coaching staffs who to see their players succeed. Chuck Henderson and Martin Samek are very good coaches. These teams and the coaches are better than their 3-5 records. The coaches and players know what they must do to get the win this Friday.

Bad News:  It always comes down to winning.  When you have long losing streaks, coaches and players start doubting themselves.

So who is going to win this game?
Athletically you would have to believe Asheboro has a huge advantage. Southwestern Randolph has had success running the ball this year, but it has not translated into wins.

The Cougars have not been able to stop many teams from scoring.  Asheboro, on the other hand, has not put up impressive offensive numbers since the Eastern Randolph game.

Either team could win. I believe Asheboro has more talent, but when you get in a game like this anything could happen.  Think about it. Would it surprise you if Asheboro won by three touchdowns? Would it surprise you if Southwestern Randolph won by three touchdowns?
