Asheboro defeats Southern Alamance

Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Blue Comets of Asheboro hosted the Southern Alamance Patriots in a game that began on Friday. Friday’s game was suspended due to rain.

Wednesday’s game picked up in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Comets leading 3-2. Kaylee Unrue was on second with two outs for the Comets before Southern Alamance ended the inning with a strikeout. After four innings, Asheboro led 3-2.

Beginning the top of the fifth was Abi Stuart as she led things off with a base hit. Asheboro gained back to back outs. Emily Byrd slammed a double into right field to put a runner in scoring position for the Patriots. The Comets held the runners as they got the third out of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Emily LaClair picked up a double to put a runner in scoring position for the Comets. With one out, Sarah Lynn Ficquette drew a walk before Taylor Hildreth got on base with a solo hit to load the bases. Southern Alamance gave up a walk to Jenna Thompson. LaClair scored the automatic run to make it a 4-2 game. Southern Alamance got out of the inning as they picked up back to back outs. After five complete innings, Asheboro led 4-2.

In the top of the sixth, the Comets picked up back to back outs before walking Sidney Martin. Asheboro left her on stranded as they got the third out. Southern Alamance got two strikeouts in a row before giving up a solo hit to LaClair. Sydney Cox sent one over the fence for a two-run home run. After six innings, Asheboro led 6-2.

Leading things off in the seventh inning was Stuart as she picked up a triple. With one out Stuart tagged up as she scored for Southern Alamance. Isley Duggins gained a base hit and Byrd was walked as she took ball four. The Comets answered with back to back outs. Alley Fogleman stepped to the plate as she gained an RBI single. Mason Richmond and Byrd scored to make it a 5-6 game. The Comets picked up the final out of the inning to earned a 6-5 win over the Patriots.

Emily LaClair went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored to lead the Comets, while Sydney Cox finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs. Jenna Thompson earned the pitching win for the Comets.
