Bulldogs stun Wildcats in 5 sets

The Trinity Lady Bulldogs made several comebacks on Tuesday to earn a 3-2 PAC-7 volleyball match win over the Eastern Randolph Wildcats on the road.

Set one was just about as close as they come as neither team could maintain a large lead. Eastern Randolph took the first point of the set, but the Bulldogs were right on the Wildcats heels to tie the set at 1 all. Trinity would take a 7-3 lead before allowing the Wildcats to battle back for an 8-7 lead. The teams went back to trading points before Trinity pulled away for an 18-14 lead. The Bulldog lead would not hold long as the Wildcats managed to tie the set at 25 all. The Bulldogs would squeeze out two more points to take the first set 27-25.

Eastern Randolph bounced back in the second set by jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats led 15-5 before the Bulldogs began to work their way back into the set. Trinity slowly crept their way back into the set, cutting the lead to two twice. The Bulldogs would trail 23-21 before the Wildcats took the set 25-21. Taelyn Johnson was key in holding off the Bulldogs as she sent two thundering kills over the net.

Trinity took the first two points of set number three, but the Wildcats quickly took a 5-2 advantage. The teams would trade points back and forth before Eastern Randolph pulled ahead for a 13-7 lead. Trinity would hang close, but could never cut the lead below four. Johnson was key once again as the Wildcats took the third set 25-17 and took a 2-1 advantage in the match.

No one could find breathing room in the fourth set of play as the lead never got more than four. The Bulldogs took the first point, but soon fell behind the Wildcats at 9-7. Trinity would quickly turn things around as they took a 12-9 advantage over the Wildcats. Eastern Randolph stayed close and tied the set at 14 all and then again at 16 all. Trinity out hit the Wildcats for a 20-16 lead, but the Wildcats would not go away. Eastern Randolph tied the set at 23 all and then took a 24-23 lead. Trinity would tie and retake the lead at 25-24. The Wildcats managed to tie the set at 25 all, but a serving error would give the Bulldogs a 26-25 lead. Trinity would pick up their final point for a 27-25 set win.

In the fifth and final set, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. After the first point was scored by the Wildcats, Trinity took a 5-1 advantage and then a 6-2 lead after a block. Five was the closest the Wildcats could get the rest of the set as they Bulldogs pulled away for a 15-7 set win. Trinity took the match 3-2.

Nyah Powers led the Bulldogs with 10 kills and 10 service points, Abba Willard dished out 15 assists and 11 service points. Mackenzie Glover notched 14 digs, 5 kills and 10 points, while Carson Brown finished with 18 digs. Taelyn Johnson led the Wildcats with 22 kills and 3 digs, while Marion Goins recorded 3 aces, 4 kills, 2 digs, and 37 assists.
