Cougars take down Bulldogs

The Lady Cougars of Southwestern Randolph kicked off the 2019 girls’ soccer season at home on Wednesday as they faced off against the Trinity Lady Bulldogs.

Taking the first touch on the ball were the Cougars as they took off down the field. Trinity stopped the ball and took possession. The Bulldogs started strong and wasted no time taking back to back shots at the goal. Southwestern Randolph’s keeper was there for the saves. The Cougars stepped to the ball and had their fair share of attempts at the goal. Midway through the first half, Maggie Lowe sent the ball into the back of the net to put the Cougars on the board. Trinity kept pushing as they gained control of the ball and took some attempts at the goal but came up short. At the half, Southwestern Randolph led 1-0.

The Bulldogs began the second half with possession of the ball and surpassed the Cougars’ defense for an early attempt at the goal. Southwestern Randolph allowed the Bulldogs to take more touches as it allowed them to get the ball down the field into scoring range. The Cougars were given an attempt at the goal but came up short. The Bulldogs had three close attempts at the goal but were unable to score. Southwestern Randolph stole the ball as Kylie Zimpfer sent the ball passed the goalie for the Cougars second goal of the night. Trinity was unable to get on the board as they continued to take attempts but were unlucky. Arlet Arellano added another goal for the Cougars as they picked up a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs. Kayla Blankenship dished two assists for the Cougars.
