Eastern Randolph shuts outs Trinity

Friday night the Trinity Bulldogs hosted the Eastern Randolph Wildcats for a conference matchup in football.

Leading things of in the top of the first were the Bulldogs as they kicked off. Eastern Randolph returned the ball to the 50-yard line as they began their first drive of the night. Not even a minute into the game the Wildcats pick up their first touchdown. Jordan Terrell carried the ball into the end zone on the Wildcats second play of the night. Eastern Randolph went for the extra point but the kick was blocked by Trinity’s defense. Tyler Hammond returned the ball for the Bulldogs to the 40-yard line. On third down, Nathan Davis threw an interception to James Locklear as he picked up a Wildcat first down on the 49-yard line. Eastern Randolph gained back to back first downs as they were able to surpass the Bulldogs’ defense. On second and two, Terrell ran down the middle for his second touchdown of the night. The Wildcats lined up for a kick but faked the kick and gained a two-point conversion by Terrell. Eastern Randolph kept the momentum going as they recovered their own onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. On third and eight, Cam Glover carried the ball into the end zone. The Wildcats led 20-0. Trinity started their run on the 29-yard line as Gage Taylor rushed the ball for two first downs in a row. A complete pass to Connor Stanley added another first down for the Bulldogs. Taylor ended the first quarter on third and two on the 26-yard line. After one complete quarter, Eastern Randolph led 20-0.

Trinity started the second quarter on fourth down as they gained no yardage. The Bulldogs turned the ball over on the 34-yard line. Eastern Randolph took over and Glover picked up another Wildcat first down on second and one. On the next play, Zion Warner was handed the ball and he ran it into the end zone. The attempt at the kick was good as Eastern Randolph led 27-0. Hammond returned the ensuing kickoff to the 12-yard line for the Bulldogs. On second and 11, Davis threw his second interception of the night to Warner. Warner ran the ball to first and goal on the 5-yard line for the Wildcats. Terrell rushed into the end zone for another Wildcat touchdown. Eastern Randolph took a 33-0 lead. Trinity tried to cover yardage as they started on the 26-yard line. The Wildcats defense held the Bulldogs as they were forced to punt the ball on fourth down. Eastern Randolph returned the ball to the 46-yard line. Trinity’s defense forced the Wildcats into a fourth down situation, but Terrell picked up the first down to keep the drive alive. Due to unsportsmanlike conduct on the Bulldogs, the ball was placed on the 18-yard line for the Wildcats. Warner was handed the ball and scored to give the Wildcats a 39-0 lead. Eastern Randolph went for the extra point and they were successful to make it a 40-0 game. Taylor returned the ball to the 35-yard line for the Bulldogs. Davis threw his third interception of the night to Warner as he returned the ball for a pick six. A flag was thrown for a hold in the back from the Wildcats which canceled the touchdown. Minutes later the Wildcats redeemed themselves as Letterlough scored a touchdown. At the half, Eastern Randolph led 47-0.

Leading things off in the third quarter were the Wildcats as they kicked off to the Bulldogs. Trinity returned the ball to the 26-yard line. Trinity was unable to get past the Wildcats defense as they were forced to punt the ball on fourth down. Warner returned the ball for the Wildcats as he picked up a 69-yard touchdown off the return. The kick was successful as Eastern Randolph led 54-0. Returning the ball for Trinity was Taylor as he was taken down on the 30-yard line. Taylor ran back to back plays as he was able to gain another first down. On the next play, Dillon Nelson picked off the ball for the Wildcats and he was taken down on the 50-yard line. Eastern Randolph finished the third quarter on the 37-yard line on second and 12. After three complete quarters, the Wildcats led 54-0.

Eastern Randolph continued to run the ball as Tavis McAdoo stepped foot into the end zone. The kick was good as the Wildcats took a 61-0 lead. Trinity took over on the 33-yard line with a fair catch. Gunnar Harris rushed the ball as he picked up third and eight. After an incomplete pass by Davis, the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs. Eastern Randolph took over on the 35-yard line. Zade Brower was able to pick up a first down for the Wildcats. On third and 14, Eastern Randolph punted the ball. As the clock ran out the Bulldogs were unable to make a play. Eastern Randolph defeated the Bulldogs 61-0.
