“Game of the Week” Asheboro vs Randleman

After a week of voting the first “Game of the Week” has been chosen and it looks to be a good one. The teams in this week’s “Game of the Week” are fierce rivals who leave everything they have on the field. Friday night will add another chapter in this rivalry as the Asheboro Blue Comets welcome the Randleman Tigers into Lee Stone Stadium in this week’s “Game of the Week.”

As the first game of the season for both teams, it can set the tone for the remainder of the season. Since 2004 Asheboro has eleven wins to the Tigers’ three. The Blue Comets were riding a six-game winning streak before suffering a 37-34 loss to the Tigers. Randleman will look to start a winning streak of their own as the Blue Comets look to keep the win total higher on their side.

As the host, Asheboro will have home-field advantage. The Blue Comets lost several key players to graduation, but they retained enough to players to put together a strong team. Senior Cory Durrant will return as the quarterback and lead the team. Asheboro will also bring back safety Nate Fisher, cornerback Brooks Gillespie, and wide receiver Jacob Reaves. The Blue Comets will also bring a group of freshman to round out the roster including Qamelo Butler who played well at the middle school level.

Randleman too lost a host of key players from their conference and county championship team from last season. The Tigers will bring back speedy running back Jaquan Snipes while senior Timmy York takes over at quarterback. Jake Johnson, Brok White, Dawson Edwards, and Dominick Poole will also return for the Tigers. Although they lost some talent from last year, Randleman looks poised to have another strong season.

The 2018 season will kick off with these two and if it is anything like last year fans will be in for quite a treat. Come out on Friday to find out who wins this week’s “Game of the Week.”
