G.C. Castelloe Jr. led Southwestern Randolph High School as principal during the 1976-77 school year. Southwestern Randolph students knew how to make a fashion statement back in the 70’s. The top styles during the ’76-’77 school year were rugby shirts, jumpsuits, painter pants, “male” jeans, corduroys, and blow back bangs. Homecoming was one of the biggest events to take place at Southwestern Randolph during the school year. Throughout the week classes and clubs spent time working on homecoming floats and selling tickets to the big dance. Cheerleaders sold spirit chain links to see who had the most school spirit. The class of ’77 bought the most links that week. The homecoming queen was none other than Senior Class Secretary Deborah Gail Lambert who was escorted by Senior Class President Craig McKee. In May of  1976, a Southwestern Randolph student finished in the top 3 of the National Drivers Ed contest. Who knew that there was a National Drivers Ed contest? Apparently it is in fact a real thing. So real in fact that a SWRHS student had placed in the National Drivers Ed contest twice in four years. Colon Richardson, Jr. took home third place in the contest in May of 1976. The other student to place in the contest was Ronnie Parrish who took first back in 1973.
