Koehler crowned MPC tournament champion

The Mid-Piedmont Conference tennis tournament took place on Wednesday and one county player took home the top prize.

Southwestern Randolph’s Wes Koehler had an impressive day as he took home the tournament title in singles action. Koehler took down his first three opponents 8-0 before defeating Srikar Kazirayuni of Williams (6-3, 6-0) in the finals.

Dylan Sweet and Braylen Beason of Southwestern Randolph reached the finals in doubles action before falling to Owen Smith and Karel Vachutka of Southeast Guilford. Carter Allgood and Montgomery Moody of Asheboro finished third in doubles action after defeating Ben Cross and Alex Mercado of Southwestern Randolph.

All three doubles teams and Koehler qualified for regionals which begin on May 3. Southwestern Randolph will also participate in the dual team states on May 1 after finishing in second place in the conference.
