Lady Comets Defeat Williams

Friday night the Asheboro Lady Blue Comets hosted the Williams Bulldogs for a matchup in basketball.

Starting strong were the Comets as they took an early 8-0 lead. Scoring for Asheboro was Rachel Luna, Diamond McDowell, and Tanaesha Ellison. Putting the Bulldogs on the board was Tucker. Sinking another three for the Comets was Luna. Scoring back to back for Williams was Miles and Tucker. Luna found another open look from behind the arc as she drained another three for the Comets. Shaw drove the ball in as she scored on a layup. McDowell drew a foul and made one out of the two free throws. Ellison finished out the first quarter for Asheboro as she knocked down a jumper. Ending the first quarter on the foul line was Lloyd. After one complete quarter, the Comets led 19-11.

Opening the second quarter was Shaw as she closed the gap for Williams. Gaines pulled up for a three as she made it a 16-19 game for the Bulldogs. Returning the favor was Kesley Nance as she gave the Comets 22 points. Continuing to lead the Bulldogs was Tucker as she grabbed a rebound and put it back up. McDowell scored back to back buckets followed by buckets from Ellison and Janiya Jackson. Asheboro took a 30-19 lead. Tucker stood under the basket as she added two points to the Bulldogs total. Nance finished the second quarter for Asheboro as she gave them 32 points. Ending the second quarter with a three was Crawley. At the half, the Comets led 32-24.

Yazzmyn Johnson began the third quarter with a bucket to give the Comets a ten point lead. McDowell was sent to the line and made both shots with ease. Ellison gave the Comets a 16 point lead with a bucket. Driving the ball to the hoop was Tucker. Crawley led the way for the Bulldogs as she scored five straight points. Finding herself back on the line was McDowell as she made her shots with no problem. Luna scored back to back baskets as she gave Asheboro 46 points. Strader was able to give the Bulldogs another two points with a basket. Luna finished out the third quarter as she sunk a three. After three complete quarters, the Comets led 49-33.

In the fourth quarter, Tucker started things with a three-pointer. Luna kept pushing as drove the ball to the hoop. Scoring two baskets in a row was Ellison. Shaw would help the Bulldogs close the gap to 17 points. McDowell and Luna were able to score two baskets in a row as they gave the Comets 60 points. Stepping up to the foul line for Williams was Miles as she made one free throw. Williams would finish out the fourth quarter as they had 44 points. Asheboro held the Bulldogs 60-44.

Rancher Luna led the way for the Comets with 19 points, Diamond McDowell had 16 points, and Tanaesha Ellison chipped in 14 points. For the Bulldogs Tucker finished with 15 points and Crawley had 9 points.
