Lady Raiders defeat the Patriots

Thursday afternoon the Providence Grove Lady Patriots hosted the High Point Andrew Red Raiders for a PAC-7 matchup in basketball.

Opening the game up with the first basket was Avery Browder as she put the Patriots on the board. The Raiders quickly scored and soon took a 7-2 lead. Helping High Point Andrews out was Baker and Anaya Cureton. Sinking a shot for Providence Grove as Makayla McClain as she closed the gap to three points. Drawing back to back fouls was Jeriel Nesbitt as she made two out of the four free throws. Malea Garrison finished out the first quarter for Providence Grove as she gave them 8 points. Nailing a three-pointer for the Raiders was Baker as she gave them a 9 point lead. At the end of the first quarter, High Point Andrews led 17-8.

Starting the second quarter was Johnson as she increased the Raiders total. Garrison swished a three to cut the lead to 8 for the Patriots. Nesbitt drove the ball three times in a row to add 6 points to the Red Raiders’ total. Stepping back for the jump shot was Baker as she made it a 27-11 game. Finding an open basket for the Patriots was Garrison as she gave the Patriots 14 points. Kaitlin Sexton made a bucket as she finished Providence Grove with 16 points at the half. High Point Andrews went on to lead 32-16 at the half.

Andrews opened the third quarter with a 3-0 run to add to their lead. Drawing a foul for High Point Andrews was Baker. Madison Dark was sent to the line and made both free throws with ease. Garrison took an open shot as she nailed a three-pointer for the Patriots giving them 21 points. Scoring three points the old fashion way was Nesbitt. Garrison drove the ball in as she made a layup for Providence Grove. Scoring back to back for the Raiders was Johnson and Nesbitt. Browder would finish out the third quarter for Providence Grove as she gave them 27 points.

Leading the way in the fourth quarter was Brenaza Lawson as she went on a 5-0 run. Johnson would help increase High Point Andrews lead to 27 points. Drawing two fouls back to back for the Raiders was Lawson and Johnson. High Point Andrews led 58-33. Dark drew a foul but only made one free throw. Ending the fourth quarter was Ashley Bowman as she gave the Raiders a 60-34 win.

Top scorers for the Raiders was Kiretha Baker with 16 points and Sequoyah Johnson chipped in 13 points. For the Patriots, Malea Garrison led the way with 17 points and Madison Dark had 5 points.
