Lady Tigers run by Bulldogs

The Randleman Lady Tigers closed out the week by kicking off a varsity doubleheader against the Trinity Bulldogs. Randleman came into Friday’s game 3-1 in conference play and 6-6 overall on the season. Trinity entered the game 0-3 in conference play and 0-14 on the season.

Randleman was first on the board with a three from Taylor Gantt and the Tigers would have no trouble building on their lead. The Tigers’ defense contained the Bulldogs on the offensive end of the floor and held them scoreless for the entire first quarter. Randleman scored 18 unanswered points for an 18-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Emma Marlow pushed the Tigers’ lead to five with a putback followed by Hannah Hinshaw who scored off a pass from Gantt. After a couple of trips to the free throw line for Gantt, Randleman led 10-0. The Tigers got the job done in the paint and took their 18-0 lead into the second quarter.

Gantt took another trip to the free throw line about two minutes into the second quarter and made one of two to push the Tigers’ lead to 19. Trinity finally got on the board just before the five-minute mark when Bre Brown drained a three. A pair of free throws from Gantt extended the Tigers’ lead back to 18 before Kylie Lyons knocked down one of two at the line. Taylor Deaton would close out the quarter with a fast-break layup just before the buzzer to give Randleman a 23-4 lead at the half.

The Tigers opened the third quarter of play with six straight points to push their lead to 29-4. Deaton opened the game with a two-point jumper followed by a score down in the paint from Hinshaw. Veronica Marlow found a wide open lane to the basket for a score. Brown ended the run at the free throw line after being fouled on a three-point attempt. She went two for three at the line to cut the lead to 22. Gantt knocked down a deep two followed by a steal and fast break score to put the Tigers in front 33-7. Trinity got another bucket from Brown before Alecia Johnson got the friendly bounce on a three. After three complete quarters, Randleman led 36-9.

Brown opened the fourth quarter with a wide open three cut the lead to 24 for the Bulldogs. Randleman answered with a pair of free throws from Gantt followed by a putback bucket from Christy Gainey. Brown and Tori Kirkman each went one for two at the line for the Bulldogs midway through the quarter. Randleman closed out the game on a 5-0 run after free throws from Emily Roach and a fast break score from Chloe Hicks. Randleman got the win 45-14.

Taylor Gantt paced the Tigers with 19 points, while Hannah Hinshaw finished with 6. Emily Roach and Alecia Johnson each notched three for the Tigers, while Taylor Deaton, Emma Marlow, Veronica Marlow, Chloe Hicks, and Christy Gainey each added 2. Bre Brown led the Bulldogs with 9.
