Lady Timberwolves top Bulldogs

The Lady Timberwolves of Uwharrie Ridge played their second game in two days on Tuesday as they traveled to ATMS to take on the Lady Bulldogs.

Uwharrie Ridge opened the top of the first with a pair of runs for an early lead. Alley Lowe got on base and after out number one would be brought in by Madison Varner for the first run of the afternoon. A bunt from Emma Snow put runners on first and second for the Timberwolves. The Lady Bulldogs got out number two, but Lindsi Brown responded for the Timberwolves with a single to load the bases. Madelyn Small drew a walk to bring in Varner for the automatic score and give the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead. ATMS would get the final out of the inning when Mich Wilson had her hit caught. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Bulldogs were forced to go three up, three down as the Uwharrie Ridge defense came out strong. After one inning, Uwharrie Ridge led 2-0.

The Timberwolves continued to have success hitting the ball as they brought in three more runs during the top of the second inning. ATMS got the first out right away before giving up a single to Lowe and a bunt to Kensie Payne. Lowe was caught in a rundown moments later between third and home but managed to escape and score for the Timberwolves. A pop-up from Varner was caught for out number two. Snow took a pitch to the arm for the automatic walk and a single from Kenzie Martin scored Payne. Snow scored off a single from Brown before Small struck out for out number three. ATMS started strong in the bottom of the second with a single from Lindsey Hart, but the Timberwolves came together to force three straight outs to end the inning. After two complete innings, the Lady Timberwolves led 5-0.

Uwharrie Ridge got the bats going in the top of the third as they scored seven runs for a 12-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Wilson singled to start the inning before the Bulldogs got the first out. A triple from Lowe scored Wilson and Lowe would score off a hit from Payne. A hit from Varner and a walk from Snow loaded the bases just before Payne scored on a wild pitch to give the Timberwolves a 7-0 lead. Back to back singles from Martin and Brown scored two runs for the Timberwolves. Small was hit by a pitch to load the bases before a single from Wilson scored Martin. Brown scored off a walk from Lowe after out number two. ATMS got the final out to end the inning. The Lady Bulldogs put a couple of runners on base in the bottom of the third, but could not bring them in as the Lady Timberwolves got three outs. With three innings complete, Uwharrie Ridge led 12-0.

The scoring streak continued for the Lady Timberwolves as they brought in six runs in the top of the fourth inning. Uwharrie Ridge loaded the bases quickly with their first three batters before a single from Brown scored Varner. Small was thrown out at first for out number one but managed to score #9. Wilson singled to bring in Martin before the Lady Bulldogs go the second out of the inning. Uwharrie Ridge loaded the base once more before scoring three more runs off of two singles and a walk. ATMS threw Martin out at first for the final out of the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, it was the Lady Bulldogs’ turn to load the bases. With one out and the bases loaded, a walk from Karleigh Hunt scored Savannah Heiney for the Bulldogs’ first run of the night. Uwharrie Ridge got the second out of the inning before hitting Avery Dykes with a pitch. The automatic walk by Dykes scored Taghan Safriet for the Bulldogs. Gracie Hodgin stepped to the plate and hit a three-RBI double for the Bulldogs. Uwharrie Ridge got out of the inning with the third and final out. After four innings, the Lady Timberwolves led 18-5.

ATMS had a strong defensive performance in the top of the fifth inning as they held the Timberwolves to just one run. After three its by the Timberwolves, ATMS got back to back outs. A single from Lowe scored the only run of the inning. Rylee Tucker was thrown out at first for the final out of the inning. Uwharrie Ridge opened the bottom of the fifth with a strikeout before giving up a single to Maggie Messner. Messner would be left stranded as the Timberwolves got back to back outs to end the game. Uwharrie Ridge got the win 19-5.
