Lady Wildcats take down Providence Grove

The Lady Wildcats of Eastern Randolph faced off against PAC-7 conference foe the Providence Grove Lady Patriots on Wednesday night.

Providence Grove kicked things off as Kaitlin Sexton hit a jumper with no problem. The Wildcats came out strong with a 7-0 run as Taylor Hatchett, Kayla Long, and Marion Goins led the way. Getting a pass from down under the net was Avery Browder as she broke the Wildcats run and added two points for the Patriots. Madison Dark pulled the Patriots closer to the Wildcats as she drained one from behind the arc. Hatchett drew a foul on the Patriots and made both free throws with ease. Hatchett continued to play well for the Wildcats as she drove to the hoop on the next play and scored. Closing the gap to two points for the Patriots was Browder as she made it a 9-11 game. Ending the first quarter with a nothing but net three point was Aniyah King as the Wildcats took a 14-9 lead.

In the second quarter the Wildcats dominated as they opened with an 8-0 run for a 22-9 lead over the Patriots. Long, Tehya Jordan, and Hatchett led the way during the run for the Wildcats. Providence Grove scored their first points of the quarter as Kailtin Sexton knocked down a pull up jumper to make 22-11 game. Making back to back shots for Eastern Randolph was Hatchett as she extended the lead to 15 points. Stepping back and hitting a nothing but net three was Sexton as she gave Providence Grove 14 points. Ending the second quarter was Savannah Beaver as she drew a foul for the Wildcats. At the half Eastern Randolph led 27-14.

Hatchett started the third quarter for the Wildcats as she took the ball all the way to the hoop and scored. Behind Hatchett was Alexis Christian as she put in another basket for the Wildcats. Anna Thomas put in a layup for the Patriots as she made it a 16-32 game. Drawing a foul for the Wildcats was Hatchett as she only made one out of the two shots. Once again Thomas knocked down a shot from down under adding two more points to the Patriots total. Emma Saunders got a pass down in the paint and banked one off the glass to bring the Patriots total to 20. Eastern Randolph finished out the third quarter as they made it a 20 point game. At the end of the third the Wildcats led 40-20.

Long and Hatchett extended the Wildcats lead to 24 points at the start of the fourth as they knocked down back to back baskets. Saunders once again posted up and scored back to back buckets to close the gap back to 20 points. The Wildcats continued to play strong on the offensive end as they were able to score with ease. Before long the Wildcats had built a 51-23 lead. Thomas was able to get open for a basket and added two more points to Providence Grove’s total. Hatchett and Long scored back to back buckets for the Wildcats to give them a total of 55 points. Drawing back to back fouls on the Wildcats was Dark as she made three out of the four shots. Beaver drew a foul on the Patriots and made both shots with ease. Sexton ended out the quarter with back to back baskets giving the Patriots 33 points. Eastern Randolph gained a conference win against the Patriots 59-33.

Top scorers for the Wildcats were Taylor Hatchet with 24 points, Kayla Long with 20 points, and Tehya Jordan with 5 points. For the Patriots Kaitlin Sexton lead the way with 9 points and Madison Dark finished with 8 points.
