Little leads Bulldogs past ER

In their final game of the regular season, the Eastern Randolph Wildcats hosted PAC-7 conference foe the Trinity Bulldogs on Friday. Eastern Randolph entered Friday’s match-up with a 2-3 PAC-7 record and a 3-7 overall record, while the Bulldogs were 2-3 in conference play and 5-5 overall on the season.

Trinity received to start the game and Tyler Bova returned the opening kickoff for the Bulldogs to start their drive. The Bulldogs moved the ball down field with a combination of running and pass plays, including a 17-yard pass from Nathan Davis to Thunder Levy for a first down. Trinity picked up four first downs on their opening drive and capped it off with a 1-yard touchdown run from Tay Little. Caleb Parrish tacked on the extra point to give Trinity and early 7-0 lead. Eastern Randolph took over and picked up a first down on their first play, off a 23-yard pass from Kody Wilder to Tyrese Cassidy. Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not get much going from their and were forced to punt on fourth down.

The Bulldogs took over on their own 49-yard line and went to work on their second scoring drive of the night. Trinity picked up three straight first downs to get inside the red zone before Little punched one in on an 8-yard run on third and five with under a minute to play in the first quarter. Parrish made the extra point to put the Bulldogs up 14-0. The Wildcats got the ball back and ended the first quarter on second and ten with the ball on their own 43-yard line.

Eastern Randolph opened the second quarter with three straight first downs before Wilder found Andre King for a 24-yard touchdown pass that put the Wildcats on the board. The extra point was missed as Eastern Randolph trailed 14-6. Trinity gain some ground on their first drive of the second quarter, but penalties kept mounting and the Bulldogs were eventually forced to punt on fourth and nineteen. The Wildcats took over on their own 1-yard line with their backs against the end zone.  The Wildcats caught a break as a penalty on the Bulldogs gave ER an automatic first down. Eastern Randolph gained some big yardage on their next two plays after a 31-yard run from Zion Warner and a 32-yard pass from Wilder to Cassidy. The Wildcats would add to their score as Wilder passed to Cassidy who then found Jordan Nelson in the end zone for a 28-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was not good as ER trailed 14-12.

Trinity needed just one play extend their lead back out. Gage Taylor returned the ensuing kickoff to the ER 48-yard line and on the first play of the drive, Little took the handoff and raced 48-yard into the end zone. The Wildcats would block the extra point attempt as he Bulldogs led 20-12. Eastern Randolph was not done as they moved the ball down the field with a couple of big pass plays, before Wilder used the QB keeper to score a 1-yard touchdown with 33 seconds left in the half. The Wildcats tried for the two-point conversion, but it was no good as they cut the lead to 20-18. Trinity returned the kickoff to their own 41-yard line and then let Little handle the rest. Little took the hand off and punched in a 59-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 26-18 with 14.6 seconds remaining. The two-point conversion attempt was no good. The half would end with Trinity leading 26-18.

Cameron Cox returned the second half kickoff to the Wildcats’ own 15-yard line as ER went back to work. The Wildcats moved the ball up the field with as Wilder connected with Cassidy on more than one occasion. Eastern Randolph would cap off their drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Wilder to Cassidy to cut into the lead. The two-point conversion was no good by the Wildcats as they trailed 26-24. Bova returned the ensuing kickoff for the Bulldogs to their own 47-yard and after a short pick up on the following play, Little took the hand off and picked up another touchdown. Little raced 51-yards in for his fifth touchdown of the night. Parrish nailed the extra point attempt to give Trinity a 33-24 lead.

Eastern Randolph could only get the kickoff return to their own 12-yard line before they were stopped by a host of Bulldogs. The Wildcats went to work and fumbled the ball near the end zone. Brian Crooks of Trinity recovered the fumble and stepped into the end zone with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. The extra point by Parrish gave the Bulldogs a 40-24 lead. Eastern Randolph could not get anything going on their next drive and were forced to punt on fourth and ten. Trinity took over and maintained possession through the end of the quarter. After three quarters of play, Trinity led Eastern Randolph 40-24.

The Bulldogs got within 18-yards of the end zone before having to try for a field goal on fourth down. The kick was no good as the Wildcats took over on downs. Eastern Randolph wasted no time moving the ball down the field as Wilder connected with Cassidy on passes of 34-yards and 4-yards. The 4-yard pass would be in the end zone for another Wildcats touchdown. Once again, the Wildcats tried for the two-point conversion, but it was no good as ER trailed 40-30. On the ensuing kickoff, the Wildcat thought they had recovered their own onside kick, but the officials said the Wildcats touched the ball before the Bulldogs. Trinity took over at their own 37-yard line, but would be forced to punt on fourth down moments later.

The Wildcats took over on their own 15-yard line before turning the ball over on downs moments later. Trinity had the ball on the ER 22-yard line and went to their running game to move the ball. Little capped off the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds remaining in the game. The extra point from Parrish put the Bulldogs in front 47-30. Eastern Randolph would answer with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Wilder to Cox with 7.1 seconds remaining. The extra point was good as the Wildcats cut the lead to 47-37. Trinity would let time run off the clock to secure a 47-37 win over the Wildcats.
