Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Anna Thomas

After another week of exciting games in Randolph County sports, it is time for this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”.  Teams were in their second week of conference play and players showed up to lead their teams to victory. One player, played extremely well this past week and helped her team to three wins. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Providence Grove’s Anna Thomas.

Thomas, a junior, is a three-year member of the Patriots varsity softball team and is also a member of the basketball and volleyball teams. She has been a key part of the Patriots for the past three seasons and has continued to grow as player each year. This past week she led the Patriots to wins over Asheboro, Wheatmore, and Trinity. In Monday’s win over Asheboro she finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. She also picked up the pitching win after allowing just 1 hit, 1 run, and striking out 7 batters. On Tuesday, Thomas finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and earned the pitching win with 5 strikeouts against Wheatmore. She closed out the week by going 3-for-4 at the plate with 1 run scored, and 3 RBIs. She gave up 1 hit, 1 run, and struck out 8 batters to earn the pitching win against Trinity.

So far, this season she has picked up 7 pitching wins and struck out 58 batters. She has a slugging percentage of .972 and a batting average of .486. In her three seasons with the Patriots, Thomas has earned 27 pitching wins and struck out 238 batters. She has a career batting average of .409 and a career slugging percentage of .657.
