With just a few games left in the season, teams and players are working to put the final touches on the regulars in hopes of earning a spot in the state tournament. Rain caused some delays this week, but that did stop this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” from helping her team win. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Southwestern Randolph Aranza Gallegos.

Gallegos, a senior midfielder and captain, is a four-year member of the Cougars’ varsity soccer program. She is an excellent player who knows how to take the ball to the goal or dish the assist. In the Cougars’ two games this week, she recorded one goal and one assist. On Wednesday, she dished out an assist in the Cougars win over Western Guilford and the picked up a goal in the win over rival Asheboro on Friday. Gallegos has recorded 23 goals and 9 assists in 14 games this season.

In her career, she has scored 42 goals and dished out 24 assists in 69 games. She has helped the Cougars to a 60-11-4 record during her four years. This season she has helped lead the Cougars to an 8-2 Mid-Piedmont Conference record and a 15-3 overall record. Her play and aggressiveness will be needed as the Cougars work through the final games of the season and head into state tournament play.

Congratulations to Aranza Gallegos on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
