As the spring sports season winds downs, games are getting fewer and fewer. Teams are gearing up for the post season and players are beginning to pick up their play. One player in the county has been consistent all season and can play multiple positions for his team. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Randleman’s Bailey Welch.

Welch, a senior, has been a key member of the Tigers’ baseball program for the past four years. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Tigers to a runner-up finish at the state championship in 2015. He has been consistent each season and worked his way to a scholarship offer from Appalachian State University.

So far this season, Welch has helped lead the Tigers to a 15-6 overall record and a 6-1 conference record. On Saturday in Randleman’s game against the Southeast Guilford Falcons in the Farm Bureau Invitational Championship game he scored the only run of the game for the Tigers on a solo home run. In the Tigers win over Asheboro on Wednesday, he finished 1-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs. As the Tigers head into the post season, look for Welch make key plays for the Tigers down the stretch.

Congratulations to Bailey Welch on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
