With the regular season winding down, teams and athletes stepped up this week to help their teams close out the season strong. One athlete helped her team to a 2-1 finish on the week as they hold second place in conference. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Eastern Randolph’s Brooklyn Rush.

Rush, a sophomore, is a two-year member of Eastern Randolph varsity softball team. She had a strong freshman season where she recorded 21 hits, 18 RBIs, and 22 runs in 29 games. She used the momentum from her freshman season to become a go-to member of the Lady Wildcats this season as a sophomore. In sixteen games this season she has picked up 25 hits, 15 RBIs, and 16 runs scored. She has a season batting average of .431 and an on base percentage of .468.

This past week she helped the Lady Wildcats to a 2-1 record on the week as they improved to 7-3 in league play and 9-7 overall on the season. On Monday, Rush went 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 7-5 loss to Southwestern Randolph. Eastern Randolph rebounded to pick up back to back wins to close out the week. Rush went 4-for-4 with a home run, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs in a 6-0 win over Southern Alamance on Tuesday. To close out the week, she went 2-for-4 with a double, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI in a 7-0 win over conference foe Wheatmore. Eastern Randolph will need Rush to continue to have strong performances as they close out the regular season and head for the post season. The Wildcat faithful will have a lot to look forward to during Rush’s final two seasons in a Wildcat uniform.

Congratulations to Brooklyn Rush on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
