Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Fernando Castro

Another week in Randolph County sports has come to an end. Athletes across the county have put on some great performances this past week as they have done all season long. One athlete, in particular, put together quite a stat line this week to help his team stay undefeated. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Southwestern Randolph’s Fernando Castro.

Castro, a junior forward, had a great week as he helped the Cougars improve to 4-0 in conference play and 11-0 overall on the season. On Monday against Southeast Guilford, he notched two goals and two assists for a total of six points in the Cougars’ 4-1 win. Two nights later against Southern Alamance, Castro helped the Cougars to a 3-0 win with two goals and one assist for a total of five points. The Cougars stepped out of conference play for a 5-0 win over Randleman and Castro finished with two goals and one assist for a total of five points.

So far this season, he has scored 18 goals in 11 games and dished out ten assists. He has a total of 46 points on the season. He is averaging 1.6 goals per game and has scored in all but one game this season. In two seasons on varsity, Castro has 37 career goals and 17 career assists in 35 games. He also has 91 career points. He has been a strong leader for the Cougars this season and will be looked upon to be a leader as the Cougars head into the postseason.
