Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Gracie Ballard

Stephanie King

Randolph County athletes really came to play this season as several of them posted impressive numbers during the first week of play. One athlete put up such an impressive stat line that she earns this year’s first athlete of the week honors. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Trinity’s, Gracie Ballard.

Ballard, sophomore outside hitter, led her team to a 2-1 start to the season this past week and has the Trinity Bulldogs looking like a hard team to beat. In her first game of the season, she picked up 12 kills, ten service points, three aces, and five digs in a 3-0 match win against Thomasville on Monday. She continued to elevate her game the following night even though the Bulldogs fell to a tough Southwestern Randolph team. Ballard finished with 16 kills, 12 service points, five aces, and nine digs. She capped off the week with a strong performance in Trinity’s 3-1 win over Oak Grove on Wednesday. She ended the game with 22 kills, ten service points, seven digs, two aces, and one assist in four sets.

Ballard was a stellar player last season for the Bulldogs and it seems that she has only grown and gotten better since then. She has a career-high of 28 kills set in the final game last season and it would not be surprising if she were to top that number this season. She is already off to a great start to the season and is helping the Bulldogs become a strong team that will be hard to beat.

Congratulations to Gracie Ballard on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
