Randolph County teams have had a great start to the 2018 season and it seems they just keep getting better as the season moves along. Athletes stepped up when their teams needed them to and they have been consistent all season. One athlete has been so consistent she has begun to make a name for herself and she is only a freshman. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Trinity’s, Gracie Ballard.

Ballard, a freshman, is in her first season as a member of Trinity’s varsity volleyball program. In her first game of the season, she finished with 12 kills, three aces, seven servicing points, and two digs. She has built on that and helped lead the Bulldogs to a 10-2 start to the season with a 2-1 mark in conference play. This past week she helped lead the Bulldogs three straight wins.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs picked up a 3-1 match win over conference foe Providence. Ballard notched 26 kills, two aces, 12 serving points, and five digs. One night later in a 3-0 match win over Southern Guilford, Ballard finished with 17 kills, one ace, ten serving points, and seven digs. She closed out the week with six kills, four aces, and nine serving points in a 3-0 conference match win over Jordan-Matthews.

So far this season, she has racked up 162 kills, 53 digs, 22 aces, and 114 serving points in just 12 games. She has a season hitting percentage of .500 and a 56.3 kill percentage. She is average 4.5 kills per set. Ballard has provided a spark for the Bulldogs this season and her star looks to shine brightly during her next few years as a Bulldog.

Congratulations to Gracie Ballard on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
