The spring sports season is here and it is time for the first Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” of the season. Several athletes stepped this week to help their teams to victory. One team opened the season with back to back wins and has one of their seniors to thank. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Randleman’s Megan Cottrell.

Cottrell, a senior, is a three-year varsity member of the Randleman softball team. She has been a strong presence on the field during her time with the Tigers and shows no sign of stopping this season. This past week she helped the Tigers to a 2-0 start to the season and showed that the Tigers are going to be a tough team to beat this season.

In the season opener, Cottrell went 1-for-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored against East Montgomery and helped the Tigers to an 18-6 win. She also stole three bases in the win. On Friday, she led the Tigers to a 6-5 come from behind win over Asheboro. She went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases. She finished with week with a .800 batting average.

Congratulations to Megan Cottrell on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
