Rain dampened a few games earlier this week, but that did not stop players from giving it their all when they did play. One player put together an impressive performance in just the first half of his team’s game this week. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Randleman Middle School’s Sawyer McCollum.

McCollum has had a great start to the season for the Tigers on the football field and it seems that he will only get better going forward. He completed two two-point conversions for the Tigers as they won 34-16 over the SERMS Wildcats.

All his stats in the game against SERMS came in the first half and led the Tigers to a big lead early. He touched the ball five times in the game and was only tackled twice. Over the course of the first two games of the season, McCollum has shown that he can be a difference maker for the Tigers. He has a season total of 203 rushing yards on 23 carries and 4 rushing touchdowns. Defensively, he has made 10 tackles including 4 tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble in the first game of the season. The Tigers are looking like a strong team this season and will McCollum the field opponents are going to have their hands full.

Congratulations to Sawyer McCollum on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
