Stephanie King

After a week of mostly softball and baseball, it is time for this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”. Players stepped up all week during their teams Spring break tournaments and this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” did just that. Eastern Randolph’s Shyanne Gay is this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”.

Gay, a sophomore, can play multiple positions for the Lady Wildcats’ softball team and has been a consistent player all season. She has played in fifteen games for the Wildcats this season and has recorded 13 runs on 20 hits and 8 RBIs. She has a .500 batting average on the season and is a serious threat when she steps to the plate. This past week she went 5-for-6 at the plate and scored 2 runs in two of the Wildcats’ games. In a 12-2 win over the Asheboro Blue Comes, Gay went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a double. In Friday’s loss to Southern Alamance, she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

In her two seasons with the Wildcats, Gay has played in 41 games and as a career batting average of .400. She has scored 26 runs on 36 hits and picked up 21 RBIs. She will be key as the Wildcats finish out the rest of the regular season and head into post season play.

Congratulations to Shyanne Gay on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
