Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Trey Ross

At the beginning of the week three teams were contenders for a state championship, but by the end of the week only one was left to continue the fight for a title. The Randleman Tigers are the only Randolph County team remaining in a state playoff bracket as they defeated their first-round opponent in the football playoffs. They had several players who played well on Friday, but one stood out to us and he is this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”. The Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is senior Trey Ross.

Ross, a senior TE/DL, has played well for the Tigers all season. He has helped lead the Tigers to a 10-1 record on the season and a 6-0 finish in conference play. He may not make the big plays each game, but Ross is one of the key reasons for the Tigers’ success this season. During the regular season he finished with 480 receiving yards on 28 receptions, but that does not show all his hard work on the field. He never takes a play off and is constantly battling to get open to give the quarterback and eligible receiver down field.

In the Tigers first round state playoff game, Ross had his best game of the season pulling down five receptions for about 113 yards. Two of those receptions were touchdown passes from quarterback Tanner McGee. Both of Ross’ touchdowns came in the second half of play. He caught a 52-yard bomb from McGee for his first touchdown of the night midway through the third quarter. One possession before, he caught a two-point conversion pass from Timmy York to extend the Tigers lead. His final touchdown came on a 24-yard pass from McGee to put the Tigers up 36-7 in the fourth quarter. If the Tigers can get production like this from Ross next week, then their odds for advance just got a whole lot better.

Congratulations to Randleman’s Trey Ross on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
