Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Tyler Hoover

Teams are beginning to find their groove as they continue to move through the season and this past week they showed they have what it takes to work hard. One player worked extremely hard this week trying to bring his team to victory twice. His team went 1-1 on the week, but he put in a great performance. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Southwestern Randolph’s Tyler Hoover.

Hoover is a senior running back and free safety for the Cougars. He has been a member of the varsity football program the last three seasons and has gotten better each year. This season he has been one of the Cougars go-to offensive options and if he can find an opening then the Cougars will pick up some big yardage. On Monday, Hoover picked up 67 rushing yards on 18 carries in a losing effort to the Wheatmore Warriors. He managed 66 receiving yards on three receptions with one touchdown. Friday night, he had to battle with a Providence Grove defense that had his number. He pushed and pushed to pick up several first downs and finally managed to score on a 27-yard run in the third quarter of play.

Though his numbers may not be extremely high game in and game out, Hoover draws the attention of the defense which provides open opportunities for his teammates. Defensively, he can cause problems for the opponents’ offense. He has career totals of 1,142 rushing yards, 37 tackles, and 15 solo tackles. Hoover will be a key part of the Cougars success this season and opponents better watch out.

Congratulations to Southwestern Randolph’s Tyler Hoover on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
