Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Wes Koehler

Stephanie King

The weather put a damper on several games this week, but that did not stop teams and players from making the most of the week when they did take the field or the court. One athlete closed out the regular season of his senior season strong with several wins to help his team to two wins on the week. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Southwestern Randolph’s, Wes Koehler.

Koehler, a senior, has been a key part of the Southwestern Randolph men’s tennis team for the past few seasons. He has helped the Cougars to a 10-2 conference record and an 11-3 overall record this season. Koehler closed out the regular season with wins over Asheboro and Southeast Guilford. On Wednesday against Asheboro, he earned a singles win before teaming up with Ben Cross for a doubles win as the Cougars defeated the Blue Comets 7-2. One day later, the Cougars posted an 8-1 win over the Falcons of Southeast Guilford and Koehler went undefeated once again. After picking up a singles win, he teamed up with Cross for a doubles win.

He has had an impressive season for the Cougars finishing the conference season undefeated in both singles and doubles action. He is the reigning Mid-Piedmont Conference Player of the Year and a three-time All-Conference selection. Koehler will continue his tennis career at Limestone College next year, but before that, he still has a little work left to do for the Cougars as they head into postseason play.

Congratulations to Wes Koehler on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
