Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Will Clauser

When deciding on a Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” we look at a variety of factors before making a decision. Scoring the most points or picking up the most yards are definitely ways for an athlete to get noticed, but sometimes it is the athlete may not be the leading scorer or all-star that stands out to us. This week’s athlete of the week made a name for himself this week and he did it in a big way. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Asheboro’s Will Clauser.

Clauser is a three-year member of the Asheboro Blue Comets basketball program and a two-year member of the varsity basketball team. You may not find his name in the sports section after every game, but you will today. Clauser came up big for the Blue Comets on Friday when they traveled to Randleman to take on their cross-county rival. He finished with nine points and all nine came in the fourth quarter from behind the arc. His first three came early in the fourth quarter to cut Randleman’s lead down to 36-34. He would knock down his second three with just over a minute to play to give the Blue Comets a 49-48 advantage over the Tigers. His final three was the biggest of them all as the Blue Comets were trailing 51-49 with time winding down. Clauser drilled the three with two seconds left in what would prove to be the game winning bucket.

Clauser will go down as a legend in this bitter rivalry and we cannot wait to see what he does in the rematch later this season.

Congratulations to Will Clauser on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week”!
