Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” Gracin Hall & Baylor Petty

Kaitlyn Mullins

The winter sports season kicked off this week and we have the first Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” of the season. Although only a handful of teams competed this week, two players put in strong performances in their first games of the season. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Weeks” are Randleman Middle School’s Gracin Hall and Baylor Petty.

Hall had a great season for the Tigers last year and picked up right where she left off in RMS’ first girls’ basketball game of the season. She led the Tigers to a 34-19 win over the Uwharrie Timberwolves on Thursday. In the win she scored 20 of the Tigers’ 34 points and she did it in a variety of ways. Most of her points came at the charity stripe, but she showed she can battled in the paint or step outside and knock down the three. Hall knocked down 2 threes in the win.

After being a reserve for most of last season, Petty opened the 2017-18 season in a big way for the Tigers’ boys’ basketball team on Thursday. He led the Tigers to a 60-16 win over the Uwharrie Timberwolves and led all scorers with 17 points including 5 three pointers. Fourteen of his points came in the second quarter. He put his name in the scoring column when he drained three straight threes to give the Tigers a huge lead.

Hall and Petty have kicked off the Tigers’ season with a bang. RMS will be difficult to stop this season with those two leading the way for their respective teams. Congratulations to Gracin Hall and Baylor Petty on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week”!
