Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” NERMS, ATMS, & SWRMS

The middle school winter sports season came to an end this past week and three teams made it into this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week”!

NERMS Lady Huskies Basketball

The Lady Huskies of NERMS started the week as the number three seed in the Randolph County Middle School Girls Basketball Tournament and by the end they were crowned champions. They defeated SERMS in the opening round before knocking off the second seeded RMS Tigers in the semifinal to set up a date with the top seeded Lady Cougars of SWRMS in the championship game. NERMS fell behind early in the championship game, but never gave up as they rallied in the second half to take the lead and eventually win the game in overtime.

ATMS Bulldogs Boys Basketball

The ATMS Bulldogs did what no other basketball team could do this season as they finished a perfect 17-0. The Bulldogs won the regular season championship with a 14-0 record before dominating the tournament for the title. They took down Uwharrie in the first round of play and then rolled by NERMS for a shot at the title against SAMS. The championship game was close, but the Bulldogs pulled it out late for the win and remained undefeated.


SWRMS Cougars Wrestling

After finishing the regular season at 12-2, the SWRMS Cougars capped off their season by winning the Randolph County Middle School Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. The Cougars were one o the top two teams in the county all season with their two losses coming at the hands of Asheboro. SWRMS had six wrestling earn individual medal for finishing first in their weight class.

Congratulations to all three of these teams on their tournament titles and on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week”!
