Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” RMS Tigers

Kaitlyn Mullins

After being rescheduled a couple of times, the Randolph County middle school football championship was held on Monday. All eight teams took the field, but only one came away with the championship. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” are the RMS Tigers.

RMS was a strong team all season long and suffered only one loss on the season. After closing out the regular season with a 5-1 record, the Tigers set up a date with the NERMS Huskies in the championship game on “Super Monday.” The Huskies handed the Tigers their lone loss of the season and RMS looked to get revenge. And get revenge they did. RMS battled it out with the Huskies and picked up a 12-6 win. The Tigers did something that no team had been able to do all season, they gave the Huskies their first loss of the season.

Chesney Welch led the offense for the Tigers all season at the quarterback position. Welch was able to get the job done through the air as well as scramble out of the pocket and pick up yards on the ground. Josue Castaneda and Amarion Moton anchored the running game for the Tigers and picked up multiple touchdowns throughout the season. Head coach Steve Rightmyer had the Tigers on their a game all season and it showed as they dominated most of the competition all year. RMS closed out the season 6-1 and the Randolph County “Super Monday” champions.

Congratulations to the RMS Tigers on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week!”
