The Lady Huskies of NERMS opened their week with a home softball contest against the RMS Lady Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.

The Huskies started strong in the top of the first as they forced the Tigers to go two up, two down. Stepping to the plate for the Tigers was Gracin Hall as she sent a triple into center-field. NERMS picked up the third out of the inning leaving Hall stranded. Edi Austin began the bottom of the first for the Huskies as she laid down a bunt. RMS’s catcher picked off Austin as she threw her out at second. The Tigers got back to back outs to end the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second Jesselyn Perez took one for the team as she got hit with the ball. Smart base running put Perez on third base as Jordan Booker stepped to the plate. Booker picked up a RBI bunt to score Perez and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. NERMS turned the next play into a double play as they got first two outs of the inning. The Huskies finished the top of the second with a ground out. RMS started the bottom of the second by walking Shae Leonard. The Tigers turned a double play followed by a ground out to get out of the inning with a 1-0 lead.

Emma Mazzarae started things off with a strike out for the Huskies in the top of the third. NERMS followed the strike out with a pop out giving them two outs. Hannah Hinshaw drew a walk to put a runner on base for the Tigers with two outs. NERMS left Hinshaw stranded as they got the third out of the inning. RMS forced the Huskies into a one, two, three inning in the bottom of the third to maintain their 1-0 lead.

NERMS began the fourth inning with a quick out, but then gave up a base hit to Perez. With one runner on base, the Huskies picked up the final two outs of the inning, leaving Perez stranded. Austin started the bottom of the fourth with a triple for the Huskies off a throwing error by the Tigers. Liberty Beane and Makayla McClain picked up back to back base hits to load the bases with no outs. Leonard drew a walk from the Tigers, automatically scoring Austin for NERMS first run of the night. The Huskies had the bases loaded with score tied at 1 all and no outs on the board. RMS would change that as MacKenzie Roach threw her second strikeout of the night. NERMS would take a 2-1 lead moments later as Morgan Gruew drew a walk scoring Beane. RMS picked up out number two with a strikeout before McClain scored after Mazzarae was walked. NERMS took a 3-1 lead at the end of the fourth inning as the Tigers ended the inning with a strikeout.

Roach and Perez drew back to back walks to give the Tigers runners in scoring position at the start of the fifth inning. The Huskies picked off Roach for the first out of the inning and then picked up back to back outs to end the inning. NERMS opened the bottom of the fifth with a base hit from Austin. Beane singled to score Austin and give the Huskies a 4-1 lead over the Tigers. RMS picked up the first out of the inning, but that did not stop Beane from using smart base running to steal home putting the Huskies up 5-1. Leonard was hit by a pitch, giving the Huskies a base runner. She would score off a single from Mazzarae to give the Huskies a 6-1 advantage. RMS ended the inning with back to back outs.

RMS hoped to catch up with the Huskies as Hall drew a walk to start the sixth inning. Savannah Scott laid down a bunt and advanced Hall on the bases. NERMS got the first out of the inning with a ground out just before Hall stole home giving the Tigers another run. Scott would steal home moments later to cut the Huskies lead to 6-3. The Huskies picked up back to back outs to end the top of the sixth. NERMS opened the bottom of the inning with a walk followed by Austin picking up another base hit. Beane laid down a bunt just before the Tigers picked off the lead runner for the first out of the inning. McClain loaded the bases for the Huskies with a base hit. Austin was forced home after Leonard drew another walk. Reann Saunders and Gruer drew back to back walks sending two more runners home to score and giving the Huskies a 9-3 lead. NERMS would take a 10-3 lead after McClain scored off a walk from Mazzarae. Allie Frazier scored on a RBI single from Sammy Craven. The Huskies would end this one after six as Gruer, Mazzarae, and Craven each stole home giving NERMS a 14-3 win.
