Patriots gearing up for new season

As the 2017 football season quickly approaches, the Providence Grove Patriots were in full force during practice on Tuesday. MyRandolphSports.com photographer Kaitlyn Mullins stopped by the PG practice to check in on the Patriots and talk to coach Calvin Brown about the upcoming season.

Competitiveness is the mindset for the Patriots this season as they look to come in and shake up the PAC-7 conference. Coach Brown thinks the Patriots have a good shot to win a bunch of games and that all starts with the team doing their best. If the Patriots are competitive each week, then Coach Brown said the numbers on the scoreboard would take care of themselves. The offseason was huge for the Patriots as they worked extremely hard and prepared better. Coach Brown said the Patriots are stronger and faster than they have ever been. Opposing teams better watch out because the Patriots are ready and they are going to show no mercy.

Senior running back Xavier Andrews will be a key focus for opposing teams as he can power through and lead this team down the field in a hurry. Andrews rushed for 63.8 yards per game last season and he should be even better this season. Junior Andrew Poteat takes over the quarterback duties for the Patriots after the departure of Cody Fogleman to graduation. Korbin Atkins and Logan Burns will lead a great group of linemen who will be key in helping the Patriots move the ball down the field.  Coach Brown looks for junior middle linebacker Jordan Hodges to have an impact this season. After missing last season due to injury, Hodges is slated to come in and be one of the better defensive players in the county.

Providence Grove fans get ready because your Patriots are ready to hit the field under those Friday Night Lights!
