Providence Grove men defeat Eastern Randolph

A PAC-7 Conference doubleheader closed out on Wednesday as the Eastern Randolph Wildcats hosted the Providence Grove Patriots.

Coming out ready to win were the Patriots as they took a 9-0 lead over the Wildcats. Helping Providence Grove with that lead was Brandon Carter as he threw down a dunk. Daylin Locklear, Evan Taylor, and Kobe Morgan all contributed to the 9 point lead as well. Stepping to the free throw line for the Wildcats was Braxton Luther as he made one out of the two shots making it a 1-9 game. Carter wasted no time as he made back to back shots for Providence Grove to push their lead out further. Shooting from behind the arc was Taylor as he knocked down a nothing but net three pointer for the Patriots. Luther ended the first quarter with a basket for Eastern Randolph. At the end of the first quarter Providence Grove led 16-3.

Questin Overman started the Patriots out in the second quarter as he went up for a jumper and scored. Luther continued to lead his team as he hit a three point giving the Wildcats 6 points. Eastern Randolph cut the lead to 10 after a bucket from Tyrese Cassidy. On the next play Cassidy scored off an assist to cut the lead down to 8 for the Wildcats. Locklear pulled up for a jump shot and was successful adding two more points to the Patriots total. Zion Warner and Luther made back to back shots for the Wildcats as they made it a 14-20 game. On the next play Locklear nailed a three pointer to put the Patriots in front by 9 points. Luther and Warner ended the second quarter as they made it a 20-25 game.

Coming back from the half was Taylor as he made two baskets in a row to extend the Patriots lead. Luther was passed the ball and knocked down another nothing but net three pointer for the Wildcats. Providence Grove went on a short 6-0 run as Carter, Taylor, and Morgan made it a 35-23 game. Carrying the weight on his shoulder was Luther as he continued to lead his team in points as he made another bucket. Taylor and Malik Sutton scored back to back buckets to give the Patriots a 39-25 lead. Warner ended the third quarter for the Wildcats as he was able to knock down a jumper. Taylor finished the third quarter with a layup to make it a 41-27 game for Providence Grove.

Starting the fourth quarter was Stephon Jones as he made his first basket of the night. Taylor is given the ball and took it all the way to the hoop scoring for Providence Grove. Warner got open and knocked down a jumper for ER. Cristian McCoy took the ball to the net and laid one in to give the Patriots a 45-31 lead. Making back to back baskets for Eastern Randolph was Luther and Warner as they closed the gap to 10 points. Taylor and Locklear ended the game with back to back buckets to give Providence Grove a 49-35 win over Eastern Randolph.

Top scorers for the Patriots were Evan Taylor with 20 points, Daylin Locklear with 11 points, and Brandon Carter with 8 points. For the Wildcats Braxton Luther lead the way with 17 points, Zion Warner finished with 12 points, and Tyrese Cassidy finished with 4 points.
