Randleman runs out of steam in championship game

The Tigers had played great baseball the past two days in the Easter tournament at First National Bank Field and earned their way into the championship game against the host team, Southeast Guilford. Randleman beat the Falcons in their two previous meetings earlier in the season.

Randleman had taken advantage of free passes in their previous two games in the tournament. They reached base on a walk or hit by pitch a combined 20 times in two games and then had timely hits to put runs on the board. The Falcons limited the Tiger offense tonight by only allowing one walk and 4 hits. Randleman still had several opportunities to score, but didn’t ¬†have the timely hitting that they had the previous two days. The left two runners on the bases in the first two innings and another one in the 3rd inning. Their only run of the night came from their tournament MVP, Bailey Welch. Welch hit a solo homerun to left field in the top half of the 5th inning.

The Tigers also looked like a different team in the field tonight. They had several mistakes that led to extra bases for the Falcons. The inning that really did them in was the 5th inning when they committed two errors that immediately led to runs for the Falcons and they trailed 8 to 1 at the end of the 5th inning.

Randleman went on to lose 11 to 1 in 6 innings.

Bailey Welch picked up a $500 college scholarship for being the tournament MVP for the Tigers. Welch is committed to play baseball for Appalachian State.

The Tigers have a conference game at High Point Andrews on Tuesday.
