Randleman shuts out PG

Thursday night the Providence Grove Lady Patriots hosted the Randleman Lady Tigers for a PAC-7 conference matchup in varsity softball.

The Patriots started strong in the top of the first as they forced the Tigers to go three up, three down. In the bottom of the inning, Randleman picked up two outs right away before giving up a double to Makenna Sibbett. Sam Welch followed with a walk but both runners were left stranded as the Tigers picked up the final out of the inning. After one inning, this one was still tied at zero.

Leading things off in the top of the second was Aaliyah Ratcliffe as she gained a solo hit. With one out, Makenzie Webster stepped to the plate and sent Ratcliffe home with an RBI double. Providence Grove gained their second out with a strikeout but Cambridge Davis sent the ball into the outfield for an RBI single that sent Webster home. PG picked up the final out to get themselves out of the inning. In the bottom of the second, Randleman got two strikeouts back to back. Carson Elliot gained a solo hit but was left on base as the Tigers finished the inning. After two complete innings, the Tigers led 2-0.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Bethany Dobias took first base with a walk. Ratcliffe made contact as she advanced the runner into scoring position. Providence Grove gave up another RBI as Karley Hughes sent Dobias home. With one out Ratcliffe tagged up as she stepped across home plate to give Randleman a 4-0 lead. Randleman began the bottom of the third with a strikeout. Maddie Hunt laid down the bunt but was left on base as the Tigers got out of the inning. After three complete innings, the Tigers led 4-0.

Jozelyn Pecorella was pitched ball four as she started the top of the fourth for the Tigers. The Patriots gained two outs in a row before Pecorella tagged up and gave Randleman a 5-0 lead. Tatum Smith led the Patriots off in the bottom of the fourth with a solo hit. Randleman finished out the inning with three outs in a row. After four innings, Randleman led 5-0.

Dobias opened the top of the fifth with a base hit before Ratcliffe slammed the ball over the center field fence for a home run. Randleman took a 7-0 lead. Providence Grove left two runners stranded as they finished the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Sarah Rice gained two strikeouts in a row. Hunt gained a solo hit but was thrown out at third to end the inning. After five complete innings, Randleman led 7-0.

Opening the top of the sixth with a solo home run was Rice. Providence Grove finished the top of the sixth with three outs in a row. Leading things off in the bottom of the sixth with a double was Sibbett. The Tigers left Sibbett stranded as they finished the inning. Randleman led 8-0 after six innings.

In the top of the seventh, the Patriots forced the Tigers into a one, two, three inning. Randleman gained two outs in a row to start the bottom of the seventh before Kaylee Bowman and Alli Young drew back to back walks. Randleman got the third out to finish the game. The Tigers took down the Patriots 8-0.
