It was a perfect afternoon for baseball as the RMS Tigers hosted the Uwharrie Ridge Timberwolves at Randleman Park on Thursday. RMS came into the game 3-0 on the season, while  Uwharrie Ridge was 2-1.

Sam Greene started things off at the plate for the Timberwolves. Greene would have his hit caught for the first out of the inning. RMS’ pitcher JC Cruz struck out Jake Lunsford for the second out of the inning before walking Darren Hurley. C. Davis picked up a single to put runners on first and second for the Timberwolves. Cruz struck out J. Campbell for the final out of the inning. RMS started strong in the bottom of the inning as Hunter Atkins hit a deep triple into left field to put a runner in scoring position for the Tigers.

A sacrifice hit from Cruz allowed Atkins to score and put the Tigers on the board. The Timberwolves picked up the second out of the inning after D. Nelson saw his hit caught. Riley Edwards picked up a single and would score moments later off a deep double to right field from Chesney Welch. C. Dunn drew a walk to put runners on the corners. RMS tacked on two more runs as Welch and Dunn scored off a single from T. Dobias. Uwharrie Ridge threw the next batter out at first for the final out of the inning. After one complete, RMS led 4-0.

It would be a short inning for the Timberwolves in the top of the second as the Tigers forced them to three up three down. The Tigers opened the bottom of the second with a walk before Atkins had his hit caught for out number one. #5 would score the first run of the inning for the Tigers as he reached home on a wild pitch. Cruz and Nelson drew back to back walks and after a couple of steals, the Tigers had a pair of runners in scoring position. Edwards drew the third straight walk to load the bases.

Cruz and Nelson would score on back to back wild pitches to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Welch was thrown out at second for out number two, but Edwards was able to score to increase the Tigers’ lead to eight. Dunn singled to center and his courtesy runner #21 scored on a balk to put the Tigers in front by nine. The next two batters drew back to back walks before the Timberwolves struck out the third batter for out number three. With two innings in the books, the Led Uwharrie Ridge 9-0.

The Tigers’ defense continued to play well as they forced the Timberwolves into another short inning. Cruz stuck out the first batter of the inning for out number one before Greene saw his hit caught for out number two. Lunsford drew a walk but would be left stranded as Cruz struck out Hurley for the final out. Atkins opened the bottom of the inning with a double to left before advancing to third after Cruz had his hit caught for the first out of the inning. A single from Nelson scored Atkins to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead.

The Timberwolves picked up the second out of the inning but Nelson was able to score and give the Tigers an 11-0 lead. After doubling to left field, Welch scored off a single from Dunn to add to the Tigers’ lead. Dobias drew a walk to add a second base runner before a single from #9 scored #21. A single from #5 brought Dobias in for the score and gave the Tigers a 14-0 lead. Atkins drew a walk to load the bases for the Tigers before a double from Cruz scored the final two runs of the game. The Tigers would run-rule the Timberwolves 16-0.

JC Cruz earned the pitching win for the Tigers.
