Tuesday afternoon the Comets of SAMS hosted the ATMS Bulldogs for a doubleheader in middle school softball.

Avery Dykes began the top of the first with a base hit for the Bulldogs. SAMS picked up back to back outs as they picked off the lead runner. Leah Mashburn got on base with a hit but was left stranded as the Comets finished the inning with the third out. Right off the bat in the bottom of the second Ky Perdue gained a base hit and Addison Allen laid down the bunt behind her. Perdue used smart base running to steal home to put SAMS on the board. ATMS gained their first out with a pop-up. Morgan Coward sent an RBI triple into center field as she sent Allen home. Up to bat next was Taylor Davis as she too got an RBI single allowing the Comets to take a 3-0 lead. ATMS finished the first inning as they left three on base.

SAMS wasted no time in the top of the second as they picked up three strikeouts in a row. Taking one for the team was Perdue as she took a pitch to the leg and was sent to first base. Loading the bases was Allen as she took ball four and Salem Lee as she gained a solo hit. Coward and Davis both drew walks picking up RBIs allowing SAMS to take a 5-0 lead. Lee worked her way around the bases and stole home for the Comets. ATMS allowed back to back walks to Sarah Hildreth and #16  as it allowed Brooklynn Covington to score. SAMS continued to lead as they were up 8-0. An RBI base hit from Amelia Dawley sent Hildreth home. ATMS allowed the Comets to take an 11-0 lead before they gained their first out. Sending a triple into left field was Lee as Perdue and Dawley scored making it a 13-0 game. Before ATMS got their final out of the inning Lee stole home to put SAMS in lead by 14 runs.

Once again SAMS forced the Bulldogs into a three up three down inning to start the top of the third inning. Right away in the bottom of the third, ATMS gained their first out of the inning. Taking one for the team was Abigail Page as she took her bag. Loading the bases were Dawley and Perdue as they had solo hits. The Bulldogs had two outs when they allowed an RBI to Lee. Page scored off of Lee’s hit to give the Comets 15 runs. SAMS run-ruled ATMS in the third inning 15-0.
