Scoreboard 10/23: Cougars, Warriors win conference tourney titles

Cougars sweep Southern Alamance for tournament title

The Southwestern Randolph Lady Cougars volleyball team posted a 3-0 match win over Southern Alamance on Wednesday to win the Mid-Piedmont Conference volleyball tournament. Southwestern Randolph won with set wins of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-18. Payton Shiflet led the way with 11 kills and 16 digs, while Ashton Maness added 11 kills and nine digs. Josie Allred finished with six kills and four blocks, while Meredith Smith picked up 14 digs. Peyton LeRoy dished out 29 assists and 12 digs. The Cougars are now 23-2 overall on the season.


Warriors claim PAC-7 tourney title

The Wheatmore Lady Warriors recorded a 3-0 match win over Trinity on Wednesday to win the PAC-7 Conference volleyball tournament. Wheatmore earned set wins of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-15. Gracie Ballard led the Bulldogs with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Sydney Skeen dished out 25 assists.


Wildcats and Warriors split PAC-7 Cross Country title

The PAC-7 Conference cross-country championship was held Wednesday at Randleman High School with the Eastern Randolph Lady Wildcats and the Wheatmore boys coming out on top. In the girls’ division, Eastern Randolph took home first with a score of 34, followed by Wheatmore with a 55, then Randleman with 57, Providence Grove took fourth with an 89, and Jordan-Matthews finished fifth with a 99.

In the boys’ division, Wheatmore came out on top with a 52, followed by Randleman with a 56, Jordan-Matthews took third with a 74, Eastern Randolph was fourth with an 86, Trinity was fifth with a 105, and Providence Grove finished sixth with a 118.

UCAMS boys soccer wins round one

The Uwharrie Charter Middle School boys’ soccer team posted a 9-2 win over Summerfield Academy in the first round of playoffs on Wednesday. Goal scorers for the Eagles were Danny Palma (4), Israel Jaramillo (3), Kaydence Butler (1), and Logan Rife (1). Jayden DeNameur dished out five assists, while Jaramillo, Naheem Smith, and Alec Millikan each dished out one.


Blue Comet CC takes 4th in MPC Championship

Both the girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams for Asheboro took home fourth place at the Mid-Piedmont Conference Championships on Wednesday at Hagan Stone Park. Wesley Britt and Rose Kidd both finished in the top 10 earning MPC All-Conference Honors.
