UCA golf places 2nd

The Uwharrie Charter golf team placed second at their Central Tar Heel Conference match on Wednesday. West Montgomery took first with a 342, UCA placed second with 368, Chatham Central was third with 382, South Davidson fourth with 385, and North Moore was fifth with a 387.

Blue Comets and Cougars tennis players qualify for regionals

The Asheboro Blue Comets are sending a pair of doubles teams and the Southwestern Randolph Cougars are sending Wes Koehler to the 3-A regional tournament. The doubles teams and Koehler placed the MPC tournament to earn a bid to regionals and will compete on May 5 at Marvins Ridge.

Logan Brinkley and Will Britt topped teammates Gio Hernandez and Jonathan Estrada 6-3 and 6-4 in the championship match of the MPC tournament. Brinkley and Britt also defeated teams from Central Davidson and Southwestern Randolph (Dylan Allen – John Castelloe) to reach the finals. Logan Driver and Ben Cross of Southwestern Randolph won a qualifying match before falling in the opening round.

Wes Koehler made it all the way to the semifinals before falling to Ledford’s Sam Hartzell.


Blue Comet golfers take first, Cougars second

The Asheboro Blue Comets took a pair of 9-hole MPC matches on Wednesday. Asheboro took both matches with a combined score of 816, while the Cougars came in second overall with a combined score of 884. In the first match, the Blue Comets finished first with a 167, Ledford placed second with a 174, Central Davidson was third with a 181, SWR fourth with a 182, and Western Guilford was fifth with a 186.

In match two, the Blue Comets were first with a 155, the Cougars second with a 167, Ledford third with a 173, Central Davidson fourth with a 176, and Western Guilford fifth with a 189.

Patriots take top prize

The Providence Grove Patriots took first place in two 9-hole golf matches on Wednesday at Holly Ridge. In match one, the Patriots took first with a 164, Randleman was second with a 179, Wheatmore placed third with a 184, Trinity was fourth with a 185, and Eastern Randolph was fifth with a 187.

Providence Grove and Wheatmore’s entire teams with advance to the regionals, while Trinity’s Nick Henderson, Zach Herring, RHS’ Henry Johnson, Justin Boone, and ER’s Garrett Law also earned spots at regionals on Tuesday.
