Blue Comet tennis falls

Asheboro’s varsity boys’ tennis team fell 5-4 to West Henderson in the first round of the 3-A state tournament on Tuesday. Logan Brinkley, Wesley Britt, and Bryan Garcia each picked up singles wins for the Comets, while the team of Britt and Garcia earned a doubles win. The Blue Comets end their season at 10-4.

Emmons medals in state regionals

Providence Grove’s Justin Emmons took home medalist honors at the 2-A Midwest Regional on Tuesday after firing a 72. The win for Emmons gives him and opportunity to defend his 2-A State Championship. Eastern Randolph’s Garrett Law shot a 79 which was good enough to qualify him for the state tournament as well. Trinity’s Zack Herring (89) and Nick Henderson (85) also participated.

As a team the Patriots placed 10th in a field of 15 with a 364. Wheatmore was also there representing the PAC-6 and finished with a 424.

The state tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Southern Lakes at Beacon Ridge.
