SAMS at SERMS Boys’ Basketball

The SERMS Wildcats opened the season with a 42-41 win over the SAMS Comets on Thursday. SERMS pounced early as they took a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Comets battled back for a 19-16 lead by halftime. It was a back and forth battle the rest of the way and this one would come down to the wire. A pair of free throws from Nicah Taylor put the Wildcats up by three with 18 seconds left, but the Comets cut the lead to one moments later. SAMS forced a turnover and had the ball with six seconds left, but the Wildcats’ defense secured the win.¬†Timothy Brower led the Wildcats with 20 points, while Nicah Taylor added 7 and Davontae Brooks finished with 6. For SAMS, Hakeem Butler led all scorers with 21 points and Josh Meadows chipped in 11.
