Southwestern Randolph shuts out Randleman

Thursday night the Southwestern Randolph Cougars hosted the Randleman Tigers for a non=conference varsity boys’ soccer matchup.

Randleman began the first half with the first touch on the ball. They made their way down the field, but the Cougars took control of the ball and quickly surpassed the Tigers defenders for their first attempt at the goal. Southwestern Randolph stepped towards the ball first and gained more touches. Randleman allowed the Cougars to dribble down the middle gap as they took another attempt at the goal but Jesus Jaramillo was there for the save. Just four minutes into the game, Fernando Castro took the ball straight to the net and score to put the Cougars on the board. The Tigers’ offense was able to take a chance at the goal as they made their way down the field. Randleman’s attempt at the goal was saved by keeper Jose Tinoco. With 12 minutes left on the clock, Castro made a run with the ball and assisted Jeremiah Martinez with the Cougars’ second goal of the night. Randleman finished strong as they kept taking attempts, but came up short. Southwestern Randolph held the Tigers 2-0 at the half.

Southwestern Randolph took the first touch on the ball as they began the second half of play. The Tigers started strong as they stepped to the ball to acquire more touches. Randleman took the first attempt at the goal in the second half but came up short. Taking a run with the ball was the Cougars as they made an attempt at the goal but it was no good. Ten minutes into the second half Castro scored his second goal of the night to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Randleman kept pushing as they continued to take shots at the goal but they were saved by Tinoco every time. The Cougars scored another goal but it was waved off after an offsides was called. A couple of minutes later a penalty from the Tigers inside the box allowed Jairo Jaimes to take a penalty kick and extend Southwestern Randolph’s lead to 4 points. Randleman had some close attempts off of corner kicks but was still unsuccessful. With just 2 minutes left in the game, the Cougars scored their final goal of the night. Southwestern Randolph defeated the Tigers 5-0.
