SWRMS routs SERMS in win

The SWRMS Cougars defended their home field on Thursday as they welcomed the SERMS Wildcats for a little middle school baseball action.

The Cougars allowed two SERMS’ runners to reach base before ending the inning with the final out. In the bottom of the first inning Troy Fogleman got things started for the Cougars with a triple to left field. A single from Easton Clapp brought in Fogleman for the first run of the game. Clapp stole second and third on wild throw to put a runner in scoring position. After an out by Tyler Parks and a walk by Blake Marsh, Landon Williamson sent a double to center that scored Clapp and Marsh. SERMS would end the inning with back to back outs. After one complete, SWRMS led 3-0.

Both teams would go scoreless during the second and third innings including a couple of three up, three down innings. SWRMS continued to hold SERMS scoreless in the top of the fourth by forcing them to go three up, three down once again. The Cougars tacked another run to their lead in the bottom of the inning. SWRMS loaded the bases after a walk from Fogleman and a single from Clapp scored Lane Dalke to put the Cougars up by four. The Wildcats closed out the inning with back to back outs.

SERMS once again went scoreless in the top of the fifth and allowed the Cougars to put three more runs on the board. Marsh and Williamson found their way on base as Brody Trogdon stepped to the plate. He doubled to score Marsh and a single from Dalke scored Williamson and Trogdon. The Wildcats turned a double play for the first two outs of the inning and picked up the third out at first moments later. After five complete innings, the Cougars led 7-0.

The Wildcats capitalized on some SWRMS errors in the top of the sixth to score their first runs of the game. Ethan Fox singled for the Wildcats and after an out by Jayden Moffitt, Kyle Smith was hit by a pitch to give SERMS two base runners. Avery Jones singled and a wild throw allowed Fox to score. Smith would score on a wild pitch to cut the Cougars led to five. SWRMS ended the inning with back to back outs. With a commanding lead, the Cougars just added to it in the bottom of the sixth as they brought five runs across the plate. Fogleman, Clapp, Parks, Marsh and Williamson would score for the Cougars to give them a 12-2 win over the Wildcats. Ethan Gravely earned the pitching win for the Cougars.
