1846: NY Nines defeated Knickerbockers 23-1 in the first official baseball game (used Cartwright rules)
1910: Father’s Day was celebrated for the first time
1938: Italy defeated Hungary 4-1 to win the 3rd FIFA World Cup
1978: Garfield appeared as a comic strip for the first time (created by Jim Davis)

June 20

1895: Carolina Willard Baldwin earned a PhD in science from Cornell University (1st female to earn PhD from an American University)
1936: Jesse Owens (US) ran the 100-meter in 10.2 seconds, set track and field record
1944: CIA authorized by Congress
1993: Chicago Bulls defeated Phoenix Suns 4-2 in NBA Finals

June 21

1768: John Archer earned the first bachelor of medicine degree in the US
1913: Tiny Broadwick became the first female to parachute out of an airplane
1970: Brazil defeated Italy 4-1 to win the 9th FIFA World Cup
1997: NY Liberty topped LA Sparks as WNBA debuted

June 22

1870: Department of Justice created by Congress
1970: The 26th amendment was signed by President Nixon, lowering the voting age to 18
1994: Houston Rockets topped NY Knicks 4-3 in NBA Finals
1994: US defeated Colombia for first FIFA world cup match win since 1950

June 23

1888: Frederick Douglas became the first African-American to be nominated for President
1926: The first SAT exam was administered in the US by the College Board
1930: Chicago Cubs topped Philadelphia Phillies 21-8
1955: “Lady and the Tramp” was released by Disney
